LIE OF THE WEEK: 07-14-2006
Illinois Senator Richard Durban on gun control during national emergencies:
"You send the National Guardsmen in and then snipers start shooting at them and the police make it known this is going to be a gun-free zone. We don't want any National Guardsmen killed because of this national emergency, this disaster. Is that an unreasonable thing?"
THE TRUTH: Yes, Senator, it is completely unreasonable. During an emergency, people will forced to protect themselves from criminals and looters taking advantage of the lack of normal police activity. Taking away people's right to bear arms during these situations simply leaves the criminals with guns and law-abiding citizens with no way to defend themselves. These statements are just further proof that gun-control advocates don't have any common sense when it comes to this issue.
