LIE OF THE WEEK: 07-28-2006

Senator Barbara Boxer on a proposed federal law banning transporting someone to another state to circumvent a state's abortion laws:

"At the end of the day, this is really more about posturing, because it's not going to impact many lives ... but (Republicans) are in charge, and this is what they want to do."

THE TRUTH: If this law were about transporting someone to circumvent a state's gun control laws, I'm sure Senator Boxer would be fully supportive. It's pure hypocrisy to accuse the other party of posturing when all you ever do is the same thing every day. How about we force both parties to work on real issues and stop posturing by eliminating their corporate sponsors from the process?

LIE OF THE WEEK: 07-21-2006

Senator Hillary Clinton on the moral issues of today:

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton chastised Democrats Saturday for taking on issues that arouse conservatives and turn out Republican voters rather than finding consensus on mainstream subjects. Without mentioning specific subjects like gay marriage, Mrs. Clinton said: "We do things that are controversial. We do things that try to inflame their base." "We are wasting time."

THE TRUTH: I agree that telling people your position on these issues is a waste of time when the majority of Americans consider your positions to be immoral. However, the important fact being missed in this is that hiding the truth is the same thing as lying about your position, but I guess immoral people will do anything to get elected.

LIE OF THE WEEK: 07-14-2006

Illinois Senator Richard Durban on gun control during national emergencies:

"You send the National Guardsmen in and then snipers start shooting at them and the police make it known this is going to be a gun-free zone. We don't want any National Guardsmen killed because of this national emergency, this disaster. Is that an unreasonable thing?"

THE TRUTH: Yes, Senator, it is completely unreasonable. During an emergency, people will forced to protect themselves from criminals and looters taking advantage of the lack of normal police activity. Taking away people's right to bear arms during these situations simply leaves the criminals with guns and law-abiding citizens with no way to defend themselves. These statements are just further proof that gun-control advocates don't have any common sense when it comes to this issue.

LIE OF THE WEEK: 07-07-2006

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on the issue of illegal immigrants:

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York said his city's economy would be "a shell of itself" without the city's immigrants, 40 percent of the population, and would "collapse" if illegal immigrants were deported en masse.

THE TRUTH: These are the ridiculous assertions of a scaremonger. First of all, mixing the issue by combining the contributions to society of legal immigrants with those of illegal immigrants is an intentional attempt to confuse the issue. Second, the only things that would happen if all illegal immigrants were deported would be an increase in the prices of certain items, whose producers have been exploiting illegal immigrants for cheap labor for far too long. Legal workers would demand their rights and be paid accordingly, which illegal immigrants can never do as long as they continue working in the shadows. Those in the business community who have exploited illegal workers should be punished severely and the number of people attempting to work illegally would immediately decline when there are no longer jobs available.
