LIE OF THE WEEK: 04-27-2007

Senator Hillary Clinton on her policy for Iraq:

"If this president does not get us out of Iraq, when I am president, I will."

THE TRUTH: Sen. Clinton, like her husband, has no track record of doing the right thing for the right reason. Instead, both she and the former president are well known for always doing whatever is politically expedient. Though the public will to get out of Iraq is strong now, there are no guarantees about what the future will bring and an immoral President Hillary Clinton would be worse for America than even the stubborn policies of the insulated President Bush.

The Pentagon's behavior in the recently revealed cover-ups of the truth of what happened to both Pat Tillman and Jessica Lynch is yet another example of the administration's prioritization of politics above all else. There can be no excuse for lying to the Tillman family about the cause of his death and there should be both disciplinary and criminal consequences for those who took these actions. Unfortunately, the other high priority item for this administration is loyalty and there is no doubt that the loyal officials who served their president (even while doing so was a disservice to the American people) will not be punished, let alone reprimanded, for their bad behavior.

LIE OF THE WEEK: 04-20-2007

Wisconsin Congressman David Obey on the status of the American military in Iraq:

"Our troops won the war clearly, cleanly and quickly. But now they are stuck in a civil war and the only solution is a political and diplomatic compromise."

THE TRUTH: While Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid exaggerates by stating that the war is permanently lost (which is not yet true) and President Bush exaggerates by claiming progress (where there is little to be found), Congressman Obey tries to split the difference by separating the initial military victory from the ongoing conflict. We will either win or lose the entire war and there is no point in trying to claim victory for the first three weeks if the entire effort results in failure.

I have rarely been so quick to react to a statement by a journalist, but it was absolutely unbelievable to witness NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams blatant display of his extreme liberal views in his interview with President Bush after the Virginia Tech shootings this week. After setting up a question by commenting on his own daughter being in college and the President's two daughters having recently graduated, he immediately jumped in with the question: "What can we do about these guns?" This view of guns being an evil force that must be removed from society is so far removed from the mainstream of American politics that Brian Williams should be reprimanded for pushing his extreme personal views, especially at such a sensitive time. What a disgusting display of political spin by a member of the so-called unbiased media.

LIE OF THE WEEK: 04-13-2007

World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz on the panel investigating his unethical behavior:

"I will accept any remedies they propose."

THE TRUTH: Paul Wolfowitz, like all his fellow Bush administration insiders, does not know the meaning of accountability. This lie of accepting responsibility does not fool anyone - he will stubbornly refuse to resign for his corrupt actions until the absolute last possible moment. This is the type of immorality and lack of ethics is exactly what is leading our friends and allies to give up on America and just wait for the current administration to end so that some reasonable policies can hopefully be put in place by the next administration.

I don't know why Don Imus went to Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson for redemption for his racist remarks. They are just as racist as he is (if not more so) and will do nothing to absolve him while using the incident to inflame racial divisions in America and try to empower their dying form of demagoguery politics.

LIE OF THE WEEK: 04-06-2007

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on women's rights in Saudi Arabia:

Pelosi later sidestepped a question on how she felt about the absence of female Saudi council members, saying: "I am very pleased that after 200-plus years in the U.S. we finally have a speaker. It took us a long time."

THE TRUTH: This does not excuse the Saudis, who treat women as inferior and are the only country in the world to not allow women to drive. Women have been the presidents and prime ministers of countries throughout the Muslim world. Our American government, with the support of the American Muslim population, should lead a chorus arguing that the Saudis have no right to invoke religion for the mistreatment of their women.

There is something wrong with today's media where immediate attention is showered on the most ridiculous aspects of any celebrity's life. Rock star Keith Richards' claim that he snorted some of his father's ashes along with cocaine should result in possible criminal actions because he admits doing drugs and nothing else. The fact that this was a major headline on all of the news wires immediately after he supposedly stated this as a joke at some insignificant event reveals an important fact: the American media is desperate for news, but only for news that will sell in America. There is plenty of important news around the world but American media outlets only care about publishing information that will sell, which is why Americans are notorious around the world for being ignorant of world news.
